Åre is Scandinavia’s largest ski resort located in the central parts of Sweden close to the Norwegian border. ► DOWNHILL MOUNTAIN BIKE IN ARE
Since the 1990s, Downhill Mountain biking in the resort has had an amazing development, competing with European resorts. Are is the largest resort from Sweden. In 1999, it even hosted the MTB & Trials World Championships organized by the UCI (International Cyclist Union), which has permitted Are to develop further.
Perfect for beginners, the playground is interesting for all levels. There are technical and more relaxed slopes dispersed in:
- 9 green slopes
- 10 blue runs
- 8 red runs
- 10 black runs
The ski lifts, one gondola and two chairlifts are open from June to October and from 10 am to 20 pm in high season.
On the slopes you’ll find a mix of banked turns, wooden modules, jumps (optional of course!) going through open areas or in forests … can’t get bored in here!

► HOW TO GET THERE
There are airports both in Östersund (Åre Östersund Airport) approx. 80 km from Åre and in Trondheim (Værnes) approx. 130 km from Åre.
There is a train station right at the heart of Åre. There are several night train options taking right up to the foot of the mountain in the morning. You can read more here.
The most common way to get to Åre is by car. Easy and fast because of the fine roads. Furthermore, it might be nice to have movement when you are here. There are also several buses taking you to from Stockholm, Göteborg and other major Swedish cities directly to Åre.
